The Hrithik hype
and hoopla
If there is one shoe I would not like to be in today, it must be that
of Hrithik Roshan. Well, I have not lost my marbles for I know what I am turning my back
to. Thousands of hysterical girls, lots of moolah and lots more good press. Everyone today
is talking about this pair of good-looking biceps. The extra thumb hunk has the whole
country giving him two thumbs up. I am not grudging the fellow his success. He deserves
every bit of it. To please hard core cynics like the ordinary junta, one needs a lot of
charisma. And the guy has dollops and dollops of it. But what I am minding about this
entire Hritik storm that has taken the country by surprise is that we are not giving the
guy any time to enjoy his success.
It's not been long since he hit the
screen and there, you have pages and pages of colour spreads calling him superlatives that
would befit Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, leave alone Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.
The press is playing an unfair game. They are lifting the poor lad to some strange
heights. The problem with such dizzy heights is that after a certain limit, the only way
is down. The press then will find another scapegoat to sell their wares and Hritik will be
left behind for the third page news. Today I have seen some obscene pages being dedicated
to Hritik Roshan by the so-called serious "general press". Playing up childish
points like, "coloured eyes" (there goes two pages), brawn and brain (oh! God,
that becomes the cover story) and more blah blah...
Give the guy some time to recover
from his sudden tryst with success. Let him taste the wine, enjoy the bouquet and get it
in his system. Don't choke him at this moment. He needs some time to adapt. He complains
today that he has got "no time for himself since the day of his release", and he
has all the reason to crib. Guess what his fervent wish today is? No, it's not that he
needs more acclaim and awards, or more fawning women. He needs some rest. He needs some
time to spend with his family. He needs a 48-hour day so that he can give himself time.
Being in the spotlight with such
glaring lights is not a very pleasant experience. The heat crumples your skin and hurts
your insides. The eeky stuff called make-up becomes the bane of your living. Today, the
biggest burden Hritik Roshan carries is that of SUCCESS. And Hritik will have to pay a
heavy prize for this stupendous attention. Now you know why my size 8 does not hurt so
much. Because, when the shoe of "Shoe" biz bites back, it really hurts and
badly!
